Good reminder. In ministry there is always the pressure to do more. But may we remind ourselves regularly of these truths that you shared.

Needed this. I’m encouraged to see so many publications starting to recognize the importance of rest. I feel like we (as a citizen of the United States) are so infatuated with toxic “hustle culture” ideology that it is considered shameful or a “waste of time” to slow down and find rest.

I appreciate your words as always, Chris.

Thanks Chris. I also see that different family members may require more rest than others. For example I have a high social capability whereas others in my family being too social might drain them more. Rest is essential.

Instead of speaking to rest, which I believe is essential, I want to encourage you regarding VBS. I'm sure you already know this but VBS can be life changing for kids. As we get older we tend to go through many of the motions and do things (like VBS) because we've always done them. But we don't always stop to think of the value our exertions yield. To this day I still have scripture come to mind because I memorized it in VBS. Lessons I learned there stuck with me my whole life even though we were always churchgoers. It's well worth the effort.

Thank you! We have always done VBS. We know the eternal impact it has for kids and families and will keep doing it for as long as God allows.

This practice of rest is critical! There’s a great read on this by A.J. Swoboda, Subversive Sabbath. This author helped me and my wife into the practice of sabbath and it has saved my ministry as a pastor. We then moved toward a 3-month sabbatical last year and that was Sabbath at a whole new level! Thank you for the good reminder and practical tips…especially being in God’s presence, that is our ultimate rest!
