If faith feels complicated right now, you are in the right place.
Maybe you still believe in God, but you have questions you are almost afraid to ask. Maybe a church or pastor hurt you, and now you are trying to figure out how to keep following Jesus without pretending what happened was okay. Maybe you have been praying for something for a long time and God seems frustratingly quiet.
Or maybe nothing dramatic has happened. You simply want to know Jesus better and figure out what following Him actually looks like in everyday life.
That is why Faith Unplugged exists.
I have spent most of my life in ministry, and one thing I have learned is that people rarely need another person shouting easy answers at them.
Sometimes we need permission to ask the question. Sometimes we need someone willing to sit with us in the tension. And sometimes we simply need someone to remind us where to look again.
My heart for Faith Unplugged is simple:
I want people to know that God has not left them, church hurt does not have to define them, and they can still walk with the One who carries them.
So if you are new here, do not try to read everything. Find the section that sounds most like where you are right now.
Start there.
I Believe in God, But I Have Questions
Sometimes doubt does not mean you stopped believing in God.
Sometimes you still believe. You simply do not understand what He is doing.
A prayer went unanswered. Something happened that you cannot explain. The God you expected and the God you seem to be experiencing do not quite match.
If that sounds familiar, these are good places to begin.
You do not have to be afraid of your questions.
John the Baptist had questions. Thomas had questions. David filled the Psalms with questions.
Faith is not pretending the questions do not exist. It is continuing to bring those questions to Jesus.
I’ve Been Hurt by the Church
This is one of the biggest reasons Faith Unplugged exists. There is a particular kind of pain that comes from being hurt by people who were supposed to help you know God.
Sometimes it was a pastor. Sometimes it was another Christian. Sometimes it was an entire church culture. And when someone hurts us while carrying the name of Jesus, it can become difficult to separate what they did from who Jesus actually is.
You do not have to pretend it did not hurt. You also do not have to let what happened become the final chapter of your relationship with God.
Start here.
Someone else’s failure does not get to define Jesus for you.
Healing may take time. Trust may need to be rebuilt slowly. But you can be honest about what happened and still keep walking toward Him.
I’m Waiting on God and I’m Tired
Waiting sounds spiritual until you have been doing it for a few years.
At first you pray with expectation.
Then you keep praying.
Eventually you start wondering if you misunderstood God, missed something, or somehow got left behind.
Scripture is filled with waiting people.
Abraham waited. Joseph waited. David waited. Israel waited. The disciples waited.
If you are somewhere between what you hoped God would do and what you can currently see, start here.
Maybe the question is not only, “When will God change this?” There may be another question worth asking too. “Who am I becoming while I wait?”
I’m Trying to Figure Out What God Wants Me to Do
Sometimes I wish God would just send an email.
Subject: Chris, Here Is Exactly What You Should Do Next.
That would save a lot of trouble.
But following Jesus usually does not work that way. We want the whole map. God often gives enough light for the next step.
If you are facing a decision or trying to understand God’s direction, these are good places to begin.
God is not hiding His will from you like some kind of spiritual scavenger hunt.
He is a Father. Following Him is often less about discovering one perfect decision and more about becoming someone willing to obey Him one step at a time.
I’m Struggling and I Want to Grow
Sometimes the struggle is not with the church. It is not even with God. It is with ourselves.
We keep making the same mistake. We struggle to forgive. We want to understand Scripture better. We look at where we thought we would be spiritually by now and wonder why we still have so much growing to do.
Welcome to being human.
Spiritual maturity is not pretending the struggle disappeared. It is learning to keep bringing every part of our lives back under the grace and leadership of Jesus.
You do not have to fix everything at once. Find one area where God is putting His finger on your life and begin there.
I Just Want to Know Jesus Better
Maybe you are not in crisis. You are not deconstructing your faith. You are not recovering from a terrible church experience. You are not staring at a major life decision.
You simply want to grow. You want prayer to become something more than words you say before dinner. You want Scripture to feel alive rather than intimidating. You want your relationship with Jesus to move beyond Sunday morning.
That matters too.
You do not need a dramatic spiritual breakthrough every week.
Much of following Jesus happens quietly. Opening Scripture. Praying honestly. Obeying what you already know. Coming back tomorrow.
Have a Question You’ve Been Afraid to Ask?
I also have an entire section of Faith Unplugged built around questions Christians sometimes think they are not allowed to ask.
Questions about God. Prayer. Sin. Forgiveness. Hell. Hearing God. Knowing His will. And what to do when faith becomes difficult.
Doubt does not scare God. And honest questions do not have to become the enemy of faith.
Want to Look Around?
If none of these sections quite describes where you are, you can always browse everything I have written.
But I would not recommend opening twenty tabs and trying to consume everything in a weekend. I have done the Christian version of that too. Three sermons, two podcasts, seventeen highlighted Bible verses, and somehow I am still confused by Tuesday.
Instead, find one thing that speaks to where you are right now. Read it slowly. Open the Scripture. Talk honestly with God about what is happening inside you.
Then take one faithful step.
Why Most of Faith Unplugged Is Free
Most of what I write here will remain free.
That is intentional.
Someone may find Faith Unplugged through a Google search at 2:00 in the morning because their faith is falling apart. Someone may be sitting in a church parking lot wondering whether they can make themselves walk through the doors again. Someone may type, “Does God still love me?” into their phone because they do not know who else to ask.
I want something helpful waiting for them. No paywall first. No sales pitch first. Just truth, grace, Scripture, and hopefully a reminder that Jesus has not gone anywhere.
If Faith Unplugged has helped you and you want to support that mission, paid subscriptions help make it possible for me to continue creating resources that anyone can find and read.
They also help me build practical tools that move beyond simply reading about faith and help us actually practice what we are learning.
The articles help you understand.
The tools help you practice.
Before You Go
Wherever you are starting from, you do not have to have everything figured out today.
You may still have questions. You may still be healing. You may still be waiting. You may still be trying to determine what the next step even is.
That is okay.
Following Jesus has never required being able to see the entire road. Sometimes faithfulness looks much simpler than that.
Take the next step you can see.
Then walk with Jesus from there.
